WHAT WE DO

The Governmental Affairs Department (GAD) of the Home Builders Association of Raleigh-Wake County functions as a liaison between local, state and federal elected officials and our builder and associate members in Wake County and the twelve municipal governments within its boundaries.

The GAD staff monitors public policy issues that have an impact on the livelihood of our members.  These issues may take the form of, but are certainly not limited to the following:

  • Impact fees and transfer taxes
  • Amendments to unified development ordinances
  • Amendments to land development ordinances
  • Building code interpretations and changes
  • Permit fee increases
  • Water restrictions
  • Transportation
  • Anti and slow growth legislation

To keep the HBA-RWC members abreast of governmental affairs, the GAD prepares a bi-weekly e-newsletter that is sent to all GAC members.  To begin receiving the newsletter, please email your request to info@hbawake.com.

The GAD manages a Governmental Affairs Committee (committee sign-up form) that meets monthly, typically the first Thursday.  (Click here to view the monthly calendar.)  This committee is chaired by the HBA President elect and the group discusses political and regulatory affairs issues and the best way to effectively advocate on these issues.

In anticipation of the need for more environmentally friendly building the GAD staff has formed a Green Building Committee (committee sign-up form) to discuss and research program options for our association.  Ultimately, the program will allow builders to voluntarily apply for their home to be certified as a “green” home.
