2018 HBA Executive Committee for the Board of Directors

2018 President, Blake Massengill, Massengill Design Build
J. Blake Massengill, CAPS, is president of Massengill Design-Build, a full-service building company located in the Triangle area. He is a second generation builder with many years of experience in the building industry. Massengill holds a bachelor’s degree in Accounting and a Master’s of Business Administration degree from North Carolina State University.
In addition to home building, Massengill is Mayor Pro-Tem of the Town of Fuquay Varina, first elected in 2013. He also owns Acute Property Management and deVintage Realty.
Massengill Design Build is the recipient of numerous Gold, Silver and Bronze Wake County Parade of Homes awards. In 2014, Massengill was honored to be named the Wake County Builder of the Year by the HBA of Raleigh-Wake County. In 2015, Professional Builder magazine named Massengill to its 40 Under 40 List, which recognizes the latest crop of bright young superstars in the home building industry. Blake is an active member of the HBA, serving on several committees. 

Past President, Vanessa Jenkins
Vanessa Jenkins, Executive VP for Preston Development Company. Preston’s primary focus is residential  development in Wake County and a major project in Chatham County. Vanessa joined Preston Development Company in 1991. A licensed North Carolina Real Estate Broker and MIRM, Vanessa is engaged in property acquisition, development and serves as the liaison between builders, neighborhoods, sales teams, and marketing implementation for Preston Development Company.  Prior to joining Preston Development Company, Vanessa was involved in commercial leasing and commercial property management.  Vanessa has been an active member of the Home Builders Association of Raleigh – Wake County and has served on its Board of Directors for the past six years. While a board member she has served as Build-PAC Chair, Parade of Homes Executive Committee, Parade Committee, MAME Committee and received a 2013 Presidential Award. 
In additional to her involvement with the HBA, Vanessa is current past Chairman for the Morrisville Chamber of Commerce.

Gaye Burwell Orr, MIRM is president and partner of Coldwell Banker Advantage New Homes a full service new home sales and marketing company in Raleigh, NC.  She has been working with builders and developers in the greater Raleigh area successfully marketing their new home communities for over 30 years. Gaye is a past Chairman of the Triangle Sales & Marketing Council, served on the Executive Committee, continues to serve on their Board of Directors, and is a National Director for the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB).  She has served as the Chair of Education Committee and the Chair of the Parade of Homes in 2016 and 2017.  Gaye was also recognized in 2016 as the first woman inducted into the HBA’s Hall of Fame for her service to the organization. On a national level, Gaye is a Past President of the Institute of Residential Marketing (IRM), a past chairman of the NAHB’s National Sales and Marketing Council (NSMC), past chairman of NAHB’s Education Committee and a Life Director for NAHB.  She is the recipient of both the NSMC Bill Molster Award and the IRM Trina Ripley Award for Excellence in Education.  She was also honored as the 2011 MIRM of the Year by the NSMC.
Gaye is an instructor for IRM and created the MIRM Aid Mentor Program to help candidates complete the case study requirement to achieve the MIRM designation. In addition to the MIRM designation, Gaye also holds the Certified New Home Sales Specialist (CSP), Certified Residential Specialist (CRS) and Certified Real Estate Brokerage Manager (CRB) designations.

Treasurer, Randy Walker
Randy Walker, President and co-owner of Walker DesignBuild, has spent nearly 25 years in the custom home building industry.  Prior to that,  with a CPA and MBA background, Randy spent 15 years as a financial executive including a stint with Price Waterhouse, an international accounting firm,  followed by two startups in the environmental laboratory  testing industry.
A Virginia native, Randy earned his B.S. in Accounting at Virginia Tech in 1974 and then returned in 1978 to obtain an M.B.A.  In addition to his involvement with the HBA where he has served in the past on the Board of Directors as well as the Parade of Homes Executive Committee and POH committee, he is also on the Advisory Board of Union Bank.
Randy is also actively involved in his community as a member of the Cary-Page Rotary Club, Rotary District 7710 Treasurer, and Christ the King Lutheran Church.  Randy and his wife, Cindy, live in Cary and have been residents of the Triangle since 1981 and are proud parents of two children and five grandchildren.

Secretary, Allen Oliver
Allen C. Oliver, MBA, is the CFO Meredith Communications. Originally from Miami, FL, Allen attended Carson Long Military Academy where he learned about the importance of service, discipline, and patriotism. He graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science from Emery Riddle University and a Master’s in Business Administration from Florida Institute of Technology. He has worked at Meredith Communications for 12 years as CFO but his unofficial title is “Operations.” Meredith Communications is a digital marketing agency that specializes in home builder marketing.

Appointee to Executive Committee, Warren Smith
​
Warren Smith, President of L and L of Raleigh, was born and raised in the Raleigh area. The son of a builder-developer and a real estate appraiser, he was destined to become an award winning custom home builder.  Warren has served on, and chaired numerous HBA Committees through the years, and served as the 2010 HBA Wake President. He has been named MAME Builder of the Year twice, and is only the 2nd builder to be named the HBA Wake Builder of the year twice, the first being his father. He was named NCHBA Distinguished Builder of the Year in 2013.

For more than a decade, Warren has won multiple awards in every Parade of Home, often with "1 Perfect Score" homes. In 2012, he won Gold in all 3 categories he entered, and topped that in 2013 by becoming the first "Parade Full Sweep" winning Gold, Silver & Bronze in a single category. Warren uses his Parade Homes as opportunities to give back to the community.  His 2015 “For The Kids” Parade Home was a charity home, with proceeds from the sale going to the HBA-Wake Charitable Foundation and Scholarship Program. His Gold-winning Holiday House last year was the catalyst for a donation of 3 trucks full of toys for Toys for 'lil' Troops, going to families of deployed and low income troops. And he is the proud builder of the 2017 Duke Children's Hospital Miracle Home. This Parade home is already sold, and proceeds will go to Duke Children’s Hospital.
