First Vice President, Jim Derrickson
Jim Derrickson is Senior Vice President at First Bank Builder Finance with a focus on locally owned home builder companies. Jim started his career in the early eighties and is proud to say he has been lending to the home building industry for a majority of that time. His primary focus in the HBA of Raleigh - Wake County has been to protect the integrity of the local home building industry by being active in the political/entitlement arena. During his involvement, he has been engaged in most of the candidate discernment processes and has served as Build-Pac Chair.
Jim has been a member of the Board of Directors for over 15 years. He has served two terms as Treasurer, and is serving again as the Treasurer for 2019-2010. He was awarded the Rookie of the Year in 1997, Outstanding Associate of the Year in 2000, and has won Presidential Awards in 1998, 1999, 2003, 2015 and 2017.
In addition to his involvement with the HBA, he serves on the Board of the Magellan Charter School Foundation.
Second Vice President, Alaina Money-Garman
Alaina Money-Garman is a homebuilder, writer, speaker and mom to three rowdy feminists and 1 tiny misbehaving dog. Alaina is the Founder and CEO of Garman Homes. Known for her award winning blog, Build Like a Girl, Alaina is passionate about the role of women and BIPOC in homebuilding. Alaina was named to Professional Builder Magazine’s list of 40 Under 40, she's also been named Builder of the Year twice - in 2015 by the Home Builders Association of Durham Orange Chatham County and in 2017 as the first female recipient of the award by the Home Builders Association of Raleigh-Wake. She is on the Executive Board of the HBA of Raleigh-Wake as well as Hope Renovations, which trains underemployed and underserved women to learn trade skills to enter the construction industry. She is a full member of ULI and Chair of the Residential Neighborhood Development Council - Blue Flight. Most recently, Alaina supervised construction on the Concept Home for the America at Home Study based on nearly 7,000 consumer responses around life from home during the pandemic. The Concept Home has since been featured in The Washington Post, Forbes, USA Today as well as ProBuilder and Builder Magazine.
Treasurer, Melissa Langdale
Melissa Langdale is the Director of Mortgage at The Fidelity Bank dba Right By You Mortgage. Melissa fell in love with the mortgage industry in 2002 and has been passionate about learning as much as possible since then. She’s served in operations, sales, business development, and various leadership roles throughout her career. She currently is responsible for leading the Mortgage Division of Fidelity Bank. In this role, she designs and executes department strategic initiatives, recruits and coaches the Loan Officer team, and drives operational efficiency. In addition, she manages Operations, Secondary, Audit and QC departments, and leads Vendor Management policies and procedures.
Secretary, Amanda Hoyle
Amanda Hoyle is the Director of Land Acquisitions for the Raleigh Division for Tri Pointe Homes where she is responsible for the growth and expansion of Tri Pointe's land and housing lot opportunities for new residential development projects in the Triangle region. Prior to joining Tri Pointe in 2021, Amanda spent 16 years as an award-winning, senior real estate journalist and research analyst for Triangle Business Journal and another four years as regional director for Zonda, a housing market research firm. She remains an adviser and administrator for TBJ’s quarterly commercial real estate SPACE report.
In addition to her involvement with the HBA, she also serves on the board of directors for Triangle Community Coalition.
Vice President of Associates, Clare Daniel
Clare Daniel is a sales representative for Sherwin-Williams specializing in home builder sales. She's gone from a college graduate taking a job in a paint store out of desperation in a terrible economy to a 10-year industry veteran, working through store management and residential sales positions before taking her current role. She's been involved in the HBA since 2016, winning Affiliate of the Year in 2018 and a Presidential Award in 2021. In addition to the Executive Committee, she serves on the Special Events Committee and is an active member of PWB of the Triangle.
